Isidro Del Prado Jr. overcame cramps in the early morning heats and broke his personal best in the 400 Finals finishing 5th im 48.64 breaking his previous personal best when he finished 2nd at the PNG last year in 49.01. Del Prado Jr. is coached by 2001 and 2003 SEA Games 400m Champion Ernie Candelario and had been stuck at 49 seconds before having the break through he needed under the guidance of Candelario. Candelario is a former student of Isidro Del Prado Sr. who holds the National Record in the 400m.

Del Prado Jr. now has a solid chance of making the 4x400m Relays, but that is not up for decision until after the Thailand Open.
