In what can be described as quite a rather quiet day in Athletics. Gilbert Rutaquio of STCAA successfully defended his 3000 m Steeple Chase title in 9:50.0 from McLord Cabalonga (Region II) and Rodnie Antiquena (WV). It was a bit faster for Rutaquio whose winning time in this event last year was 10.04.6. Rutaquio won a bronze medal for the Philippines in the 800 meter Dash at the ASEAN School Games last year and will be in the final of that event tomorrow. A graduating student at Emilio Aguinaldo High school at Cavite he is coached by Fernando Dagasgas. Rutaquio is still deciding on which college he will be attending but plans to continue on his love of running for many years to come.

3000m steeples

NCR’s Daniel Daynaata who was fifth in this event last year won the Girls Discus in 32.07m, very far from the 40.25m meet record established by Maika De Oro of WV 4 years ago. Daynaata was the only finalist from last year left in this event and she beat Bugati (CAR) and team mate Artienda in this event.

Kenneth Rafanan (STCAA) who won the Discus last year at this event, swapped his title for the Shotput Gold. Rafanan ended up a disappointing fourth in the Discus yesterday. His winning throw was 14.68m outside the 15.32m record of Bryan Pachecho last year. He edged out John Edric Manalang (NCR) 14.18m and Batang Pinoy champion Tyrone Flores (STCAA) 13.40m.
