SEA Games 2015 Philippine Team Report
Raguin and Gonzales deliver Silvers
Fencing proudly delivered a silver medal care of Harlene Raguin in the Women’s Individual Epee. She lost 11-7 against Vietnam’s Thi Len Tran of Vietnam in the Finals. Tran, 27 the SEA Games Champion from 2011 defended her title, as Fencing was not included in the 2013 SEA Games. It was the second medal for Fencing after Justine Tinio took silver in the Women’s Inidvidual Foil yesterday. The 31 year old Raguin, who stands 5’8 is the 2014 PNG Champion. But the much smaller Tran at 5’41/2 was too skilled to overcome. Eric Brando II, Jose Noelito Jr. and Gian Rodriguez all failed to make it to the semi finals of the Fencing.
It was another Veteran of the over 30’s group that added the second Silver of the day to the SEA Games tally. 44 year old Richard Gonzales, took silver in the Table Tennis finals behind Ning Gao of Singapore 4-1. Gonzales who was the bronze medalist last SEA Games ‘upgrade’ to Silver this time. In the semi-finals he beat Clarence Chew Zhe Yu of Singapore who shared the bronze with him in 2013 SEA Games.
In Synchronized Swimming, Allysa Salvador and Jemimah Tiambeng both wound up dead last in the Women’s Duet Technical and Free Routine with 53.0333 points.
The young Netball team from the Philippines suffered a loss in all 5 of its games at the SEA Games losing to the tiny kingdom of Brunei 56-32. Malaysia will play Brueni, and Singapore will play Thailand in the finals. While the Netball team return home win less from there first SEA Games experience.
