The tiny school of Romanito Maravilla in Bacolod which has around 400 Students has produced its fair share of Age Grade champions at Palaro, Batang Pinoy and PNG in the last few years. These include Michael Man-ay, Christopher Lirazan, Jerry Belibestre, Alexis Soqueno, Mark Balajabeco and Joycie Beronio. The brother and sister team of Miguel and Adriana Arca make the most of there schools limited environment digging out long jump pits in nearby fields.
Recently two of there wards had some international success with both Jerry and Alexis first selected for the 2014 ASEAN School Games. Jerry came away with a silver medal in his long jump event.
The duo next were sent in March to the ASEAN Youth Champs in Malaysia with Jerry winning gold in the long jump and Alexis taking the bronze in the 400 Hurdles. Alexis time qualfied him to the world youth championships in Colombia.
Jerry still looking for the standard of 7.25m, after leaping 7.15m at the Palaro cleared 7.26m to land a bronze medal at the Asian Youth Champs the first ever medal for the Philippines at this event and also qualified for World Youth Champs.
