The Airforce men’s quartet of Edgardo Alejan, Isidro Del Prado Jr., Brandon Thomas and Eric Cray broke the 11 year old National Record with a run of 40.54 last night at the Philippine National Open in Athletics.

The previous  mark was held from the 2005 Manila SEA Games and belonged to Albert Salcedo, Ralph Soguilon, Henry Dagmil and Ralph Soguilon with a mark of 40.55.

The team who had not practiced together as a group had enough raw speed to take .01 seconds off the National Mark.

The team also set a new Philippine Airforce record.

The groups next objective should be to run below 40 seconds, as the SEA Games bronze was 39.32, with the gold being 38.99. There is still a year and a half to the next SEA Games.

A previous quartet composed of Del Prado, Jose Unso, Anfernee Lopena and Clinton Bautista had timed 40.75 at the National Games the previous month.
