Its a very good day for the Philippine Powerlifting Team when the Philippine flag raise in the 2017 ASIAN POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS on Soreang Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.
Four Philippine Powerlifters became Asian Champions & brought home many gold medals. One of those is Joan Masangkay,  18 a native of Masbate.  She now residing at Barangay San Isidro, Galas, Quezon City. The last two years she competed first at the 2015 Asian Powerlifting Championships in Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong.
She won three gold medals & asian champion in the 43kg subjunior division. She duplicated that feat again in the 43kg junior category. Gaining her four gold medals in the Squat-100kg, Bench Press- 47.5kg, Deadlift- 110kg, Total- 257.5kg.

Another Asian champion, her team mates in Cyber Muscle gym Jessa Mae Tabuan won (3 bronze medals in Squat, Deadlift, Total & 1 silver medal in the Bench Press competition). The other Philippine Power lifter team mates of Masangkay who brought home the asian championships was Leslie Evangelista- Women’s Open division 52kg weight class ( 2 Golds & 2 Silvers ), Maxine Fugen- Women’s Junior division 72kg weight class ( 4 Gold Medals), Andrea Rowella Abrea- Women’s Sub-junior division 47kg weight class ( 4 Golds)
