SINGAPORE: More than 15,000 people took part in the Great Eastern Women’s Run on
Sunday (Nov 9). This year’s event featured a new category for local elite runners. Mok Ying
Rong beat nine others to the S$3,000 top prize - with a time of one hour, 28 minutes and 48
seconds.
The Elite Open category was won by Taiwanese Hsieh Chien-Ho. She clocked one hour, 22
minutes and 17 seconds, taking home US$8,000 (more than S$10,000) in prize money.
Behind her was Filipina Mary Grace Delos Santos, who clocked one hour, 24 minutes and 21
seconds. Her compatriot Christabel Martes was close behind in third place.

Mary Grace Delos Santos 1:24.21 and Christabel around 1:25. Which equates to around a
2:50 to 2:55 run for a full Marathon. Delos Santos must run below 2:49.01 to qualify for the
SEA Games this is the bronze medal from 2013.
If not there would be no time to run another Marathon as SEA Games is in June the
secondary option will be the 10,000m at the National open. The PNG 10,000m Champion
with 37:50, Grace must clock below 37:41 to qualify for SEA Games in tis event. At the
PNG Delos Santos beat Mary Joy Tabal. However Tabal with 2:48.00 last Milo Marathon
where she broke the course record of Former SEA Gams champion Jhoann Banayag is
already below the SEA Games mark.
At the Milo Marathon Finals four champions Tabal, Delos Santos, Martes and Banayag will
fight it out for the coveted Milo Marathon Queen title.

The Philippines Amateur Track and Field Association will send two former Milo Marathon
queens to the Great Eastern Run at Marina Bay Singapore. The meet will start on November
9. Airfares and accommodation have been covered by the Race Organizers.
The Philippines was allocated three slots for women to run the 21K event. Milo Record
Holder Mary Joy Tabal, 25 who has qualified for SEA Games in the Marathon withdrew as
she had earlier won the Seoul Half Marathon and Batuan Half Marathon leg of the Milo
qualifiers and will now rest up to defend her Milo Marathon title.
Two former Milo Marathon Champions will be lining up 2011 and 2012 Milo Marathon
Champion Mary Grace Delos Santos,27 a member of the national training pool will lineup.
Grace is still yet to qualify for the SEA Games in the Marathon with the bronze being
(2:49.01), she needs a time of 2:49.29 which won the 2013 Milo Marathon Finals.
Failing that the backup plan for Grace would be the 10,000m where she has registered a time
of 37:50.08 not too far from the required 37:41.96
Meanwhile 35 year old Cristabel Martes makes a come back of sorts, the 2001 and 2005 SEA
Games Marathon Champion who still holds the national record in 10,000m and in the
Marathon at (2:38.44). Martes who retired from the national team to raise her daughter has
her first sub 3 hour clocking in a quite while last Milo Marathon with a time of 2:57.15 to
place third last Milo Marathon Finals in 2013.
The Duo will be accompanied by veteran National Distance Coach Luisito ‘Ojon’ Artiaga.
