Asian Champs Day 4 Report and Results

Bhubanesar, India Asian Championships Day 4

Fil-Heritage sprinter Trenten Beram clocked 20.96 to again break the National Record. Beram who came into this competition with a PB of 21.12. Clocked 21.05 in the heats, 21.07 in the semis and then 20.96 in the finals. The 20.96 eclipsed his record in the heats with 0.0 wind.

Starting in Lane 2 in the finals Beram came off the bend ahead. But was quickly swamped by the bigger sprinters in the inside. But it was the tall Yang Chun-Han who came through in lane 8 to steal the gold in the last 10 meters clocking 20.66, well outside the Meet Record of 20.28. Park Bongco of Korea held on for silver in 20.71, and defending Champion Femi Ogunode lost his 200m title in bronze with 20.79. Bie Gie of China was 4th in 20.85, and Beram 5th in 20.96.

The mark sets Beram well for the SEA Games where he now has the 3 fastest times in South East Asia 2017 in the 200m with 20.96, 21.05, and 21.07. Vietnam’s Le Trong Hinh who won the 2015 SEA Games in 20.89 has not ran yet this year.

Beram who is from New York, is competing for University of Connecticut in NCAA Division 1. His mother is from Cebu.

Although this was the only Filipino athlete in action on the last day of the Asian Championships. Other South East Asian Nations showed signs of things to come.

Thailand 4×400 came in third in 3:06.48, with Phosri and 3 back up runners. There are other members Kunanon (46.00 SEA Games Champion), Chimdee and Pleenram where rested. Still Thailand took bronze behind India (expected as 3 of the 4 top placers) and Sri Lanka. Thailand with a full strength team narrowly won the SEA Games in 3:06.81. They had ran 3.11.14 in the Morning. This gives Thailand the two fastest times in SEA this year in this event.

Meanwhile in the Pole Vault Chayanisa Chomchuendee (Thai) took the bronze in the Pole Vault in 4.10m. This tied her winning leap in the 2015 SEA Games. Making her looking sure to defend a second SEA Games tittle next month.

Subenrat Insaeng took Silver in the Discus in 56.82m.

India won the Womens 4×400 in 3.31.34. Vietnam took silver in 3.33.22 and Thailand was 5th in 3.38.63.
