CEBU,
SEA School Games Champion Marvin John Rafols (Univ of Cebu) broke the Cesafi Record with a leap of 14.28m, erasing his 2016 mark of 14.10m. Beggining off his season after coming from injury Rafols leapt a 15.02m PB to win the ASEAN School Games last June in Singapore.
Still, it was a performance to remember for Rafols, who told Cebu Daily News he wanted to leave the high school division on a high note. Rafols also topped the Long Jump and helped his team mates win the 4×100, 4×400
“I will miss competing here but I have to prepare myself in the more competitive college level next school year,” said Rafols, who said he has chosen to remain with the University of Cebu next year.
“I think my experience in competing abroad helped me to gain more confidence in this competition. It helped me perform better,” said Rafols.
Cebu produces another Mary Joy
Mary Joy Loberanis
Cebu Produced yet another Mary Joy. Following perhaps in the same make as SEA Games Champion Mary Joy Tabal.
Due to a low turn out in some events, college athletes were allowed to join but scored separate.
Meanwhile 15 year old Mary Joy Loberanis beat her college opponents who were 20 and 21 years old. Loberanis won in a time of 11 min 35.26. Her best time was her gold winning 10 min 57.09 set 2 years ago at the Batang Pinoy. This effort was still enough to beat college runners Melody Perez of (USC) 11:39.6 and Lovey Andrin of (USPF) 11:57.1, while Geneda Arcuino (USC) was third in College 12:12.1. In High school division Antonette Velayo (UC) 12:03.0, and Nyka Archival (USC) 14:38.8.
Loberanis won the High School Girls 800, 1500, 3000, 4×100, 4×400.
