Kitakyushu 2018: Siamand Rahman delivers

Iranian comfortably wins the continental title and targets attack on world record
Siamand Rahman may not have broken a record this time but his sole presence put him in the spotlight as he comfortably won the men’s over 107kg on the final day (12 September) of competition at the Asia-Oceania Open Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan.
The world’s strongest Paralympian lifted 280kg in his second round. He then surprisingly failed his attempt at 285kg. But the Iranian powerlifter is not worried. His goal was to win the title and achieve qualification for Tokyo 2020, and he did.
“I will put my gold medal together with my others in my room,” Rahman said.
Rahman may not have broken a record this time but his sole presence put him in the spotlight as he comfortably won the gold medal.
The world´s strongest Paralympian won the gold thanks to a 280 kg lift in the men’s over 107kg.
According to the official website of the competition, the world and Paralympic record holder lifted 270kg in his first move to secure the gold medal in the very first step. The 30-year-old Iranian hoisted 280kg in the second attempt and then lost the 285kg in the last move since he didn’t feel the need to put more pressure on himself.
“I will put my gold medal together with my others in my room,” Rahman told Paralympic.org.

Team Philippines Report 2016 WORLD JUNIOR & SUB-JUNIOR POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS (Oct 12, 2016)
The country of Szczyrk, Poland is a very cold country. I can’t imagine that my preparation for the competition will be affected by its weather. In this country the food is more vegetables & Fruits, there is no rice how much the team tried to find it in groceries or restaurants, so we have no choice but to deal with bread & vegetables.
The whole team felt weakened on the day of the competition, but still, we brought home 5-Silver Medals, 5-Bronze Medals & a total of 10 medals

2015 National Bench Press Competition
Apr 8, 2015
Article by Andrew Pirie
*NB this is an article from a few months ago. I was just digging through my drafts and found this.
The ‘Powerlifting Association of the Philippines’ had ‘Dew Foam National Bench Press Championships’ at the Robinson’s Place Mall, in Antipolo.
MEMBER: INTERNATIONAL POWERLIFTING FEDERATION
ASIAN POWERLIFTING FEDERATION
PHILIPPINE OLYMPIC COMMITTEE
RECOGNIZED BY: PHILIPPINE SPORTS COMMISSION
This was my first time to participate in this meet. Although my Bench Press PR is 109kg in practice I opted for 82.5kg as there are so many rules to observe.
Such as Can’t lift butt off the bench, can’t lift feet off the floor, three commands each with around two-second pauses (Down, Press, and Rack). You get three lifts. I was competing in the -66kg category weighing in at 64.9kg. I warmed up and then chose 82.5kg as this was a manageable weight. The problem came not with the weight but getting used to the commands, on the first attempt it wasn’t a smooth press as the right elbow dropped a bit. Then on my second attempt, I racked it while the command was rack not after which was also saw red flags.
The Commentator then gave me encouragement on the third lift saying “Will he lift this or bomb out of the competition” luckily the third attempt at 82.5kg was successful and gave me a Gold in the Novice and Bronze overall in my weight class.
