It was reported and after reading several articles and conducting some light research to clarify this matter.
Syquia Horse Adventure E was found with the banned substance Clomethiazole as per FEI website.
Accordingly, Clomethiazole is banned as it increases the brain functionality of the horse making it easier to teach and learn instructions from the rider.
Doping is a very serious case. An in terms of most NSAs that get sanctioned it is the key cause. More so than Government Intervention which is a very rare occurrence. As no NSA in their right mind would report government interference to their international bodies and risk a suspension.
In the case of Drugs in Sport. This is well policed by a third party WADA (World Anti Doping Association) which works in partnership with International Bodies. To promote a drug-free sport.
- The Florida-based Syquia, making his maiden appearance in the regional games, captured the individual show jumping gold and was also a member of the squad that took the silver in the show jumping event. Completing the team were Marie Antoinette Leviste, Joker Arroyo, and Chiara Sophia Amor.
- FEI said “the athlete has been provisionally suspended from the date of notification (21 September 2017). Additionally, the horse has been provisionally suspended for two months.”
- The President of the Philippines Equestrian Committee is Peping Cojuanco who is also the President of the POC.
- According to FEI Rules Syquia will be allowed to appeal his case to the FEI to clear his suspension.

Please note as per Mr. Reuben Terrado article in the Spin,ph no Malaysians are in this list. They were actually Qatari.
Repercussions
- If the Suspension pushes through the SEA Games Gold would most likely be stripped. Bringing the SEA Games Gold medal tally down to 23. This would bring the % of golds won by the Philippines from 5.92% to 5.66%. 5.92% is already the lowest percentage of Golds the Philippines has ever won. And total % medals from 9.07% to 8.99%.
- It would also put the Equestrian Association of the Philippines 2017 SEA Games Gold Medals from 1 to 0 and total medals from 2 to 0.
- As Syquia and his horse also competed in a team event that won the silver. That medal may also be removed. As in the case when a member of the USA 4×400 relay team or Jamaican 4×100 Relay team tested positive causing all athletes to forfeit their medal. Or more locally the 2011 Malaysian 4×400 Relay had a member fail a drug test and the medal was given to the Philippines, Initiated via email by yours truly.
- The PSC should also take Doping cases very seriously on the image of the country. And wait for the results of the hearing.
- FEI states a hearing will be allowed, and it can impose a fine and up to 2-year ban if not happy with the evidence.
- The Equestrian Association of the Philippines is also at risk of being sanctioned by the FEI. This depends on how well they cooperate with this matter.
