The Philippines secured its first Medal of the 2017 SEA Games with a Silver in the Men’s Chinlone team event of Sepak Takraw. Hosts Malaysia took the Gold.
NSA President Karen Tanchanco-Caballero was happy with the medal. Stating that it was in the Men’s Regu and Doubles Event where they expected to get their anticipated two gold medals. In 2015 SEA Games the Philippines took 1 Bronze and 1 Silver in these events.
Malaysia scored 391 points to the Philippines 271 in the linking event.
The Philippines was represented by John-John Bobier, Rhemwil Catana, Emmanuel Escote, Ronsited Gabayeron, Joeart Jumawan, John Carlo Lee, John Jeffrey Morcillos, Regie Pabriga, and Alvin Pangan in the competition.
We were able to beat Myanmar and Thailand the world champs last year in 2016, I think they are fielding the same teams said Tanchanco-Caballero who has high faith on her sport securing the two golds promised to the Task force.
With six more events to go this is a big morale booster and good start for Philippines Sepak Takraw.
Meanwhile the Philippines Men’s Water Polo was unlucky today losing narrowly 8-7 to hosts Malaysia. After winning a stunning 9-7 over 2015 SEA Bronze medallists Thailand. After having no wins in the 2015 SEA Games. While Defending Champions Trounced Thailand 13-2 in the other pool.
While in Netball the Philippines took a second its second loss. 69-32 against Brunei. In the 5 country competition.
Back in Manila at the 2017 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship hosts Philippines lost to Chinese Taipei and now will face Kazakhstan who they lost to earlier in the competition for 7-8 places overall.
Officials of the Government will decide after a meeting with Peping Cojuanco whether the Philippines will push through with the 2019 SEA Games or not.
